Thanksgiving

Sisters!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day and small break from school.  We had our car loaded and lunch packed and we took off as soon as classes got out on Wednesday at noon.  We drove all afternoon and made it up to Wisconsin to spend the break with Ryan’s family.  It was a short trip, but special nonetheless.  I also was able to see my sister, Julianne, who joined us for Thanksgiving Day!

Over the weekend the subject of being thankful was really on my mind a lot.   It made me sad that there really wasn’t much mention of why we celebrate Thanksgiving Day.  So often we focus on food, family, and friends, when in reality the whole reason we celebrate is forgotten.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”  This verse has been very challenging to me.  It is so easy and natural to complain and be discontent, yet God has told us that it’s His will for us to give thanks in ALL circumstances!  When we stop to think about it, we really do have so much to be thankful for.  Colossians 1:12-14 says, “giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption the forgiveness of sins.”
